Skate
Texas is owned and operated by the Gast
family.
To the Gast family skating is not just a
business, it’s a life long passion. Skate
Texas owners John and Margaret Gast,
along with their daughter Dorothy, are active members of
the Houston skating community. In addition
to owning and operating the shop, all three are
active in the local skating scene. In addition to taking
part in local recreational hockey, John is a ice
hockey coach and numbered speed skating referee.
Dorothy is a full-time professional figure skating
coach.
John developed his love of skating as a
roller figure skating, later moving to speed and ice
skating. Along the way his love of the sport developed into
hands on experience with fitting and repair. Margaret began
designing skate wear for her daughter, Dorothy, and quickly
became skilled at creating one of a kind designs that
sparkle on the ice. As Dorothy moved through the skating
ranks, Margaret continued to develop her skills as a
designer and seamstress. Today her dresses are worn by world
class skaters who compete on all levels, from basic skills
through international championships.

The Gast’s original shop opened in 1991
and was located in Grand Prairie, Texas. Skate Texas moved to its Houston location in 1996 and today is an
institution in the skating community. The
Gast's dedication and knowledge of the sport, as well
as their commitment to customer service, keeps skaters
coming back to Skate Texas for all their skating
needs.
Today, Skate Texas carries a full line of
both hockey and figure skates by manufacturers such as Graf,
Risport, CCM, Reidell, SP-Teri, and RBK. The shop also
stocks a wide selection of hockey protective gear, jerseys,
and accessories. For figure skaters, Skate Texas carries
tights, competition dresses, practice dresses, soakers,
skate guards, and accessories.
